Lockheed Martin Company visit: HOW TO FLY AN ORION, F35-JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER, AND F-22 RAPTOR?

On November 9, 2015 NACCWM was invited for a tour at the Lockheed Martin’s Global Vision Center.

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 112,000 people worldwide. It is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.

The tour covered the Legacy Area, Fighter Demonstration and Space Experience Centers. It provided a full overview of all activities and technologies within LHM. The center displayed a F-35 and F-22 cockpit simulator, where some of our members were able to try. Also, an Orion Multipurpose Crew Vehicle cockpit simulator, a missile defense simulator, and the GPS Value Station were displayed.

After the tour, members enjoyed a drink at the networking event. It provided a nice atmosphere to exchange ideas and to create opportunities between US and Dutch attendees.

Of Gold Fish, Teenage Youtube stars and Telling your story

Wednesday night at the Courtyard Marriott Embassy Row, Christine Wilson, CEO of MtoM Consulting delivered a brief but fascinating overview of social media and its importance to an organization’s overal marketing strategy.

She kicked off the presentation with a video by Erik Qualman showcasing the power of social media and mobile by delivering facts and figures at break-neck speed.  Suffice to say that it raised quite a few eyebrows in the audience.  Gold fish have a longer attention span than the average person?  Yes, watch the video.  Perhaps that’s the reason Vines only last about 6 seconds.

Having established that social media presence is no longer optional for any organization, Christine explained how her firm has tripled in size in only a handful of years by focusing on the things it does well: digital marketing through social media.

It’s impossible to convey everything we heard that evening, but here are just a few things I learned:

  • How her firm currently recommends advertising on Facebook as a cost effective way to drive traffic to your web site
  • There are teenage Youtube celebrities who, at a hefty price tag, can be commissioned to make you a video
  • These same teenagers are only one kind of social media star (can you say professional athletes?) that can be hired as influencers to, well, influence buyers
  • The importance of telling your company’s story and they story of your employees, rather than merely peddling product

Fascinating presentation, Christine!  Thanks to you and to all who attended.

On Wednesday July 8th we had the honor of hosting  Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Mr. Henk Kamp at the Willard Event Center. After a presentation by the minister on Dutch American business relations, two Dutch companies active on the US market reported on their experiences.

Mr. Martin Knook, CEO of geo and mobility software development company Tensing and Mr. Joost Böggemann, VP Business Development for waste to energy company Inashco both gave introduced their respective companies and highlighted what they learned while setting up their business in North America.

The presentations were followed by a networking reception where the Minister was eager to listen to other Dutch company representatives share their experiences and stories.
